Course Information
Description The lab provides a hands-on learning experience for exploration of human system components and basic physiology. Systems to be studied include endocrine, cardiovascular, immune,
lymphatic, respiratory, digestive (including nutrition), urinary (including fluid and electrolyte balance), and reproductive (including human development and genetics).
Prerequisites The lab provides an online learning experience for exploration of human system components and basic physiology. Systems to be studied include endocrine, cardiovascular, immune, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive (including nutrition), urinary (including fluid and electrolyte balance), and reproductive (including human development and genetics). Corequisite(s): BIOL 2302. Prerequisite(s): BIOL 2301 and BIOL 2101
Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate an understanding of the general function of the endocrine system including, mechanisms of hormone action, regulation of hormone release, hormone actions, and endocrine glands, and endocrine disorders and treatments. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3, alpha) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments.

2. Demonstrate an understanding of blood composition, blood functions, blood disorders, heart anatomy and function. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3) Measured by embedded questions, and/or assignments.

3. Demonstrates an understanding of the location of the major arteries and veins of the vascular system as well as the function of the circulatory system. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3, alpha) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments.

4. Demonstrate an understanding of the anatomy and functions of the structures of the GI system, the structure and GI functions of the liver, gall bladder, and pancreas, and the various metabolic and nutritional processes involved in digestion. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3, alpha) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments.

5. Demonstrate an understanding of the anatomy and functions of the structures of the respiratory, lymphatic, & renal systems. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3, alpha) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments.

6. Demonstrate an understanding of the location and function(s) of the structures of the male and female reproductive structures. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3, alpha) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments.

7. Demonstrate an understanding of reading material including relevant terminology. (PSLO alpha) Measured by pre-post test questions.

8. Demonstrate an ability to work effectively with fellow students to complete group assignments and/or cover assigned material. (PSLO 4) Measured by group assignments in the lab portion of the course.

Textbooks Textbook Purchasing Statement: A student attending Lamar State College Port Arthur is not under any obligation to purchase a textbook from the college-affiliated bookstore. The same textbook may also be available from an independent retailer, including an online retailer.

-The REQUIRED workbook for the Bio 2102 lab (A&P2) is “Laboratory Manual for Human Anatomy & Physiology” by Greene, Robinson, and Strong. 1st ed. Pearson Publishing, ISBN:978-01-354-79-391
You will also need a copy of the lecture textbook and the Modified Mastering A&P Access code that goes with the lecture textbook. The lecture textbook is "Human Anatomy & Physiology", 2nd ed by Erin Amerman. The ISBN number for the lecture textbook only is 978-0134-754-239. The ISBN number for the Modified Mastering A&P access code is 978-0-134-78807-4

The MAP access code can be purchased directly from Pearson on the Mastering A&P site which is the cheapest place to get it. If purchased online, there will be 2 main options (approximate prices) a $70 version and a $120 version. The ONLY difference between these is the $120 version includes access to an electronic textbook (etext) while the $70 version does not. This MAP access code is ABSOLUTELY required. This MAP access code is used for lectures and labs in both A&P1 and A&P2 (4 courses). Instructions for purchase from Pearson are posted in the Course Information folder on the course website.

Determination of
Final Grade		 Each lab exam will count 20% toward your final lab average.
The average of Mastering A&P (MAP) and Dynamic Study Module (DSM) assignments will count for 20% of your final lab average

Installation of Respondus Lockdown Browser is required on any computer to be used to take an exam/quiz. MOST VERSIONS OF CHROMEBOOKS ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH RLB AND THUS CANNOT BE USED TO TAKE EXAMS. Inability to access a computer does not excuse you from the requirements and/or deadlines of the course. Exams not completed by the end of the availability dates will receive a grade of “0”. MAP assignments not completed by the due date will have a late penalty assessed. DSM assignments not completed by the due date will receive a grade of “0”.

It is imperative that you check your email EVERY DAY. This is an online class and email is the only way I have to contact you.

If you wish to email me about a grade, you must email me from the "send email" link within the course website.
Attendance Policy This is an online lab and it is the responsibility of each student to have a RELIABLE computer AND Internet access for the duration of the course. Computer labs at LSCPA are available for use. Please note that some course material may not be accessible using a cell phone and/or tablet device.
In this online class there are no scheduled class "meeting times" and it is your responsibility to manage your schedule to include completion of course requirements as scheduled. Handouts for all labs are posted on the course website. These contain information about the lab topic, indicate the sections of the lab workbook assigned for that lab, references to images posted on the course website, as well as questions over lab content. These lab handouts are designed to provide you guidance on what to study. They are not submitted for grading. Videos are posted for some labs (especially muscle and special senses).
    You may email me at any time with questions. If you wish to have a virtual office visit, please email me a time and I will email you a zoom link.
Academic Honesty Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.
